2013 SDITE Annual Meeting
At the 2008 KYSITE Annual Meeting, President Scott Walker announced that the 2013 Southern District ITE (SDITE) Annual Meeting will be held in Lexington in April 2013. The SDITE Annual Meeting is a meeting held every Spring and showcases some of the best technical information from a transportation perspective in the Southeast -- and it's a lot of fun too! The meeting rotates through the eight states and 2013 was identified as the next year for Kentucky.
Earlier this year, a process was started Both Louisville and Lexington were listed as potential to host this meeting. The process involved gathering information about each city in order to determine which city would provide the best meeting location. For Louisville, Tony Lewis (GS&P) and Ashley Williams (Entran) did a heck of job making a case for their city. Brad Johnson (WSA) and Lindsay Walker (PB) had a very convincing arguement for Lexington.
At the KYSITE Fall Meeting, six members volunteered to watch presentation prepared for each city and then vote for which city should be selected. The volunteers were stratgically picked to create a geographic balance and produce a fair vote. The volunteers included:
Lexington: Steve Cummins (LFUCG) and Andy Terwilleger (Retired)
Louisville: Brian Aldridge (Entran) and Paula Wahl (Louisville Metro)
Neutral: Kevin Blain (KYTC D-4) and Carol Callan-Ramler (KYTC D-6)
A vote also went to Scott Walker who is serving as the Local Arrangements Chair for the 2013 Meeting. The result was a close vote which appeared to include the volunteers from one city voting against their own for the other!
And the winner was -- LEXINGTON!
Over the next couple of years, KYSITE members will be called upon to assist in the planning of this meeting. Any help will be greatly appreciated. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Scott.
